The Global workshop on ‘Ending Dental Amalgam Use in Children and Promoting the Phase down Measures under the Minamata Convention’ will be held on 14-15 May, 2018 at the Chulabhorn Research Institute Convention Center, 54 Kamphaeng Phet 6, Talat Bang Khen, Lak Si, Bangkok 10210, Thailand.

Registration and Identification Badges

Participants are required to register their attendance in the meeting room well before the onsite registration commence from 8.00 am to 9.00 am on both 14 and 15 May, 2018 . They are also requested to collect their identification badges from the registration booth. 

Visa Requirements

Participants are responsible for obtaining their visas. If required, organizers will provide visa support letter. Please see Annex 1 for lists of Countries and Territories entitled for Visa Exemption and Visa on Arrival. For those countries which are not entitled to Visa Exemption or Visa on Arrival, please contact the Royal Thai Embassy/Consulate General responsible for consular affairs for your country. 


The weather during May-June for central region of Thailand like Bangkok is usually around 26-35 °C with soaring heat, humidity and a chance of rain. Light tropical clothing would be appropriate.

Health and Vaccination

Upon arrival at the port of entry in Thailand, participants who are the nationals of or have traveled from/through countries listed below which have been declared Yellow Fever infected areas must provide an International Health Certificate proving that they have received a valid Yellow Fever vaccination at the Health Control Office upon arrival before proceeding to immigration. A valid vaccination certificate means that the vaccine was administered at least 10 days prior to travel to the affected country. The International Health Certificate must also be submitted together with the visa application form.

Travelers from Yellow Fever affected countries are both required to complete a health declaration form before an immigration check. Those who fail to follow this protocol may be denied entry to Thailand (as per the Communicable Disease Act B.E.2523 and Immigration Act B.E. 2522).
Thailand is currently experiencing ongoing transmission of the mosquito-borne Zika virus. All travelers are advised to protect themselves from mosquito bites while in Thailand. Given possible transmission of the disease to unborn babies, pregnant women or women seeking pregnancy should consider postponing travel to Thailand or talk to their doctor about the implications of traveling to Thailand during this time.

On weekends, first-aid and emergency medical service are available at the Medical Centre, which is located on the ground floor of the United Nations Conference Centre (UNCC) Building, right behind the Post Office, during weekdays. The Medical Officer and Nurse are available from 07:30 to 15:45 hours, with the exception of lunch time from 12:00 to 12:45 hours. Appointments may be made by calling extensions 1352 or 1353.

Foreign currency

Any person who brings or takes an aggregate amount of foreign currency exceeding US$20,000 or its equivalent into or out of the Kingdom of Thailand shall declare the amount of foreign currency to a Customs official. Failure to make such a declaration or making any false declaration to a Customs official is a criminal offence.

Average exchange rate is US$ 1~ 31.17 Thai Baht, € 1~ 38.44 Baht.

Airport will be the first place to exchange currency. Participants will find a bank booth after immigration also in terminal building after customs where currency exchange facilities are available.

Transport to and from the Airport

Participants should make their own transportation arrangements from Suvarnabhumi Airport to their respective hotels. Limousine, metered-taxi and bus services are readily available at the airport. Detailed information about Suvarnabhumi Airport can be found at

To avail themselves of the limousines and public metered-taxis services as indicated above, it is strongly recommended that participants approach only the authorized staff at the official counters located in the airport arrival zone, who, upon request, will issue a ticket for the assignment of either a limousine or a public metered taxi for transporting passengers to the desired destination. Participants may reach public taxi counters by exiting gates 4 or 7 of the arrival zone at Suvarnabhumi Airport. In addition to toll fees, there is a THB 50 surcharge to be added to the meter charge for trips from the airport to the city.

In case of public transportation, bus no. : air 510, air 29, 29, 52, 95, 356 will be available to get into CRI. For those who will use car, CRI is located on the local Road, a frontage road parallel to Vibhavadee-Rangsit Highway, next to the Miracle Grand Hotel.

Catering Services

The organizers will provide lunch, dinner and tea/coffee during the workshop for all registered participants.

Daily subsistence allowance (only if applicable)

Participants whose travel is sponsored by WA/UN Environment will be provided with a daily subsistence allowance at prevailing United Nations rates in local currency. In order to facilitate the payment of subsistence allowance, eligible participants are requested to submit copies of the passport, boarding pass, the arrival/departure form together with their air tickets to the secretariat staff in the workshop venue.
Any participants who are unable to stay for the duration of the workshop are requested to inform the secretariat as soon as possible after arrival, so that the subsistence allowance can be adjusted accordingly.
