Attorney Charles G. Brown is the President of the World Alliance for Mercury-Free Dentistry and a former Attorney General of West Virginia. A committed environmental advocate, he leads global efforts to phase out mercury in dentistry and promote safe, mercury-free alternatives. Brown has been instrumental in advancing the inclusion of dental amalgam phase-down measures in the Minamata Convention on Mercury. He currently contributes his expertise as an advisor to the Asian Center for Environmental Health.
Dr. Shahriar Hossain is the Executive Vice President of the World Alliance for Mercury-Free Dentistry and a senior advisor to the Asian Center for Environmental Health. He holds a Ph.D. in Urban Ecology from Duke University and multiple master’s degrees in environmental and political studies. A pioneer of Bangladesh’s polythene ban, Dr. Hossain specializes in pollution mitigation, toxic chemical exposure, and climate-resilient public health, leading national and international efforts on zero waste and hazardous waste management.
Professor Dr. Md. Atiqul Haque, Ph.D., is the Dean of the Faculty of Preventive and Social Medicine and Chairman of the Department of Public Health and Informatics at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Dhaka. With a Ph.D. from Karlstad University, Sweden, his work focuses on public health, medical statistics, child protection, and environmental health. Dr. Atiqul has over 85 peer-reviewed publications and extensive experience in curriculum development and research.
Siddika Sultana is the Vice-President (Asia) of the World Alliance for Mercury-Free Dentistry. With a background in social science, development studies, and environmental education, she focuses on environmental health, chemical safety, and hazardous waste management. Ms. Sultana has led major advocacy efforts in Bangladesh, including the national policy on lead in paint, and actively contributes to the Minamata Convention on Mercury to protect vulnerable communities from toxic exposure.
Prof. Dr. Abu Jafar Mahmud is the Adviser of the Asian Center for Environmental Health. He is the former Chairman of the Department of Chemistry at the University of Dhaka and a former President of the Bangladesh Chemical Society. With long-standing academic and professional experience, he continues to contribute to chemical safety and environmental health in Bangladesh and beyond.
To protect environment and children health in Asia, we need to work together to ensure toxic free, safe and sustainable future for the next generation. We work for mercury free dental care and be specific to the children and women of child bearing age in Asia.
